JUST A FEW WORDS ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING IN MY WORLD.

Wednesday, February 02, 2005

February will be a month of crisis for me. I have paid my rent for this month but will I get enough money to stay here? My spirits are down. (I hate Februarys. This is the month that my Mom died.) I know that some opportunities will open up/come my way. I just don’t feel so positive at this point. How long should I struggle to stay?

So what am I doing to alleviate the situation? I am reading a lot. One thing is for sure, I am not an assertive or a very driven person. I called the guy in fraud who is dealing with getting back my money from my old landlords and he said he would do it this month. But that’s what he said in November and December.

I will stay here until at least mid-March but after that what? I don’t know. Maybe I will go back to Moab for a year and a half. The big unknown is if I can earn enough money by selling paintings. That’s a big IF. I do have a (very, very) small café in the 11th arrondissement that is going to put up eleven of my small older paintings up in March. More details to follow.

Spring cleaning came early for me this year. Yes, earlier this week I was going through some paintings that I had in bags against the wall when I saw that there were thousands of little light brown bugs on the wall! They were predominately on one wall along the bottom. (I found out three days later that they were baby cockroaches - fr. blattes.) I spent several days inspecting, cleaning and killing the suckers. The first time that I got them (by wiping a sponge with chlorine bleach) they were about the size of the head of pin. But by the third time when I used bug spray, they were the size of a period in newspaper print. Friday, I went through a number of paintings and some boxes for the final time and only found about ten. (The first time, I went through one painting, I found 75 on the front!) I could finally relax.

Monday, I took a couple of paintings and some more photos to a very small café (Art Café in the 11th arrondissement.) to see if the owner will let me display some small paintings, thanks to Karen, a friend of friend. They will let me know on Monday. If it happens, it will be in February. (Maybe on the fifth.)

Someone lent me The Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown.) Several people have highly recommended it. In the beginning of the book he writes “All descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents and secret rituals in this novel are accurate.” He then proceeds, right from the beginning, to inaccurately place landmarks and locations in Paris. (e.g. You can’t see the Eiffel Tower before reaching the Tuileries Gardens of which you cannot drive through, especially at night when the huge gates are closed. French trains don’t run in the middle of the night. The American Embassy isn’t where he says it is in the book and it just goes on and on.) The guy must have visited Paris twenty years ago and relied on his memory. It’s frustrating. How can you believe the rest of the stuff? How much is wrong, how much is right? It is one of those well-written non-stop thrillers with lots of unfolding puzzles and clues as one reads it. I did like the very ending - even if there was another error. (Four not six feet high. Don't worry, this doesn't give away the ending/solution.)
