JUST A FEW WORDS ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING IN MY WORLD.

Last week was January weather. This week is May/June weather.
I am not ready for summer yet!

I have set up a Saturday April 2nd afternoon vernissage/art opening in a café near Montparnasse (in Paris.) I hope a lot of people will be there.

For some reason, I just don’t seem to have any energy these past few days despite the nice sunny weather.

Well, for my non-Parisian friends – the weather went from last week to a cold wet mid-January weather to sunny May/June weather. I am not ready for summer yet!

A while back, I found an unlocked woman’s bike on the street. (It had broken chain. Later, I discovered that it was missing a spoke and the fender and crank arm were loose.) It has been too cold to put work into it to sell it so I still have it. Since my other bike is temporarily busted, I am now using my new-found bike.

I went to the Louvre last Sunday. There have been more tourists visiting the museum this winter than I have ever seen during the winter months. Why? The Da Vinci Code! The Louvre used to be my refuge. I would go there when it was quiet and wander the halls to feel and to soak up the atmosphere. I have a few friends who think that museums like this are things of the past. But there is so much there for a person to discover – that makes it new for each person. I have done several paintings based on sculptures that I have seen there (funny – but not on any of the paintings.) Their argument was that tourists would come through just because it was “the thing” to do – “been there, done that.” But I used to defend that because sometimes a person would catch their eye on a fascinating piece which would captivate them to start them down the road of seeing more carefully - as a “true artist” does. So when tourists came to see the Mona Lisa, they would make their own observations and have their own impressions. But now, they come to see it because this is the painting where one of the clues in the book is located.

Before one gets to the Mona Lisa, there is a long line down the Grand Gallery with small signs that say no photos, no flash. People were piled up in front of the ML with their cameras taking pictures – flashing away. There are four other Leonardo paintings back down the long hall away from the ML. Before, very few people would look at them - even though one of them (Virgin Mary, the Infant Jesus and St. Anne) I think is incredible. But now there is a small crowd – not around that one but another one, two paintings away - that is also in the book. Meanwhile very few people even look at the St. Anne. What a modern society we live in. How sad.

Well, I am a bit relieved that finally, a revolutionary modern painter who is not an a—hole. (Matisse) There is no account of him being abusive. He has an incredibly supportive wife who allows him to stay very busy painting so I guess that helps.
